Lead aprons for dental x-rays
As part of our commitment to providing the best care for our patients, Comprehensive Dentistry is excited to announce a change based on the latest recommendations from the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), we’re no longer using lead aprons during dental X-rays!
More Advanced Technology
The ADA recently updated their guidelines, stating that lead aprons are no longer necessary for most dental X-rays. This is thanks to major advancements in technology:
- Modern X-ray machines focus the beam directly on the area being imaged, targeting only the area needed for your X-ray. This minimizes “scatter,” meaning less stray radiation reaching other parts of your body.
- Restricted beam designs prevent radiation from reaching areas beyond your mouth, eliminating the need for lead aprons.
- Digital technology uses 80% less power than traditional film X-rays, reducing overall radiation exposure.
- Precise positioning of the X-ray machine lets us the perfect image without needing multiple tries or additional radiation.
Benefits for You
- No more bulky lead aprons! You’ll be more comfortable and relaxed during your X-ray.
- Reduced radiation exposure: This is especially beneficial for pregnant women, children, and people with certain health conditions.
- Improved accuracy: More precise X-rays means better diagnoses and treatment plans for you.
Safe for Everyone
The updated ADA guidelines apply to all patients, regardless of age or health status. Our new X-ray machines adhere to these guidelines and are tested regularly to ensure your safety and comfort.
